These are the animated movies that, when first released, set the opening three-day weekend record in U.S. and Canada after going into wide release.
At least 13 animated movies have held the record of highest-grossing animated movies at different times.

Two of these were in the DreamWorks animations Shrek franchise.

Disney and Pixar held the record four times each as of 2016.
